A Word from the Pastor

                 Welcome to The First Baptist Church of La Plata.  Let me take this opportunity to extend to you a personal invitation to come and be our guest.  We are a Southern Baptist Church located in the county seat of Charles County, Maryland.  To reach our church, simply turn off of Highway 301 onto Hawthorne Road (Route 225).  We are located one-half mile from 301 on the right.

                 We are a family of believers who are united under the Lordship of Jesus Christ and the authority of God’s Word.  We believe the Bible to be the infallible, inerrant Word of God.  The purpose of our church is to exalt the Savior, equip and edify the believer, and to evangelize and reach those who do not have a personal relationship with Jesus Christ.  Our programs are designed to accomplish this task.

                 We have two Sunday morning worship services and one evening service.  We also have a mid-week service on Wednesday night.  The emphasis of each worship service is on the worship of God and the preaching of the Scriptures.  The sermons explain a specific passage from the Bible and make practical application to our lives.

                 As a family church, we have many activities designed for every age group from small children to Senior Adults.  Our Sunday School classes are graded by age with the intention of meeting the needs of the entire family.  We offer Discipleship Training on Sunday nights for adults and have a Sunday night missions program for Mission Friends (2 years through Kindergarten), Royal Ambassadors (Boys grades 1 through 6), and Girls in Action (Girls grades 1 through 6).  Our youth also meet on Sunday nights from 6 to 9 PM with the last hour set aside for recreation and fellowship.  We have an active Senior Adult Ministry at First Baptist and various activities are planned throughout the year for our J.O.Y. (Just Older Youth) seniors.
