Hello, this is pastor gary from first baptist church of laplata. How would you like to have a career doing nothing? That’s exactly what a man in Japan decided to do. He had been called a “good-for-nothing” and slacker all of his life, so he chose to make a career out of it. After unsuccessfully looking for traditional jobs, he decided to hire himself out to do nothing; the name of his business is, “Do Nothing Rent-a-Man.” He is not a conversationalist or an escort service. People hire him to sit on their front porch or, in the case of a street performer, stand and watch the performance. The hardest part of his job is getting to the job site; once he arrives, he begins doing nothing. Japanese culture loathes aloneness, so people hire him to let others see that they are not alone. I don’t know how much this man gets paid, but he rarely has an open date on his calendar. On average, he has three appointments each day to do nothing and get paid for it. The Bible condemns laziness, but I’m not sure that this man is lazy by definition; after all, he has a job, he goes to work, he provides a service, and he gets paid. The part that makes him seem lazy is that while he’s working, he doesn’t do anything. As believers, let’s be busy for the Kingdom of God serving our King. Doing nothing in Japan may be good business, but doing nothing for Christ is unacceptable.
