Hello, this is pastor gary from first baptist church of laplata. Today we welcome the first snowfall of the season to our area! Scientifically, snow is water vapor in clouds that condenses into ice without going through the liquid stage; as it absorbs and freezes additional water vapor from the surrounding air, it becomes a snow crystal and falls to earth. Because of this process, each snow crystal, or snowflake, is unique in its appearance; this is amazing especially as you consider how many snowflakes there have been in just today’s snowfall. For perspective, a typical fist-sized snowball contains about 25,000 snowflakes. While snow can bring much hassle and danger, it also brings much beauty. With a covering of snow, the ugliest junk yard becomes a majestic winter wonderland. While we don’t generally associate snow with Bible times and places, the Bible address snow 25 times in three capacities: climate, color, and cleansing. For instance, in II Samuel 23:20, one of David’s mighty men killed a lion on a snowy day; in Exodus 4:6, leprosy is described as being snowy white, and in Isaiah 1:18, forgiven sinners are described as being made white as snow. This third use is the one that is of most importance to believers. God takes the blackness of our sin and makes it white as snow; however, this only happens through the red blood of Jesus Christ!
