Hello, this is pastor gary from first baptist church of laplata. The buck has stopped at Dollar Tree, the store where everything used to cost one dollar; in fact, since its opening in 1986, Dollar Tree has kept its one dollar price point. Due to slowed supply chains, increased inflation, transportation, and staffing costs, Dollar Tree will begin charging $1.25 and $1.50 for many of its retail items. Inflation is nothing new; while we think Dollar Stores are really cheap, they only illustrate how much inflation has affected our economy over the years. Do you remember five and dime stores? What you can now buy at the dollar store used to cost five or ten cents–that’s a 900% increase in cost! Thankfully, the price of salvation has not gone up since God first offered it thousands of years ago; it is as free today as it always has been. While salvation is free to us, it cost Jesus His life and so much more. The hymn, “Jesus Paid it All” sums it up nicely stating, “Jesus paid it all, all to Him I owe, sin had left a crimson stain, He washed it white as snow.” We are all going to be paying a lot more for everything we want and need; thank God we don’t have to pay for our salvation—we could never afford it!
