Hello, this is pastor gary from first baptist church of laplata. You probably know the story about the Emperor’s New Clothes in which the king is given nothing to wear and is convinced that he is wearing the most elegant of clothing; but have you heard of the latest fad known as virtual clothing? Like the Emperor’s new clothes, this clothing is virtual—not actual; it is clothing that doesn’t exist. In order to enhance their social media posts and impress their followers, people are purchasing virtual clothes. Here’s how it works: you take a selfie then buy a virtual outfit to wear in your selfie. Outfits range from traditional clothes to clothing that defy the laws of physics like “a shimmering silver liquid pant suit with tentacles.” Real clothing designers have actually quit their lucrative jobs to design and sell virtual clothes, and no wonder: one virtual dress recently sold for $9500.00! The Bible addresses a different type of virtual clothing in Ephesians 6:11-18 called the “Armor of God”; this also is not actual clothing—it is spiritual clothing. The Apostle Paul writes that wearing this clothing will allow us “to stand against the wiles of the devil.” Wearing virtual clothing may make you look good online, but wearing spiritual clothing will help keep you in line.
