Hello, this is pastor gary from first baptist church of laplata. Today’s “Throwback Thursday” is from Thursday, August 27, 2020. I read the other day in my morning devotion that when we recognize God as Creator, we will admire Him; when we recognize God as wise, we will learn from Him; when we recognize God as strong, we will depend on Him; but only when we recognize God as savior do we worship Him. I think many are impressed with God—but few genuinely worship Him. Worship is not where we go or what we do on Sundays but rather is what is in our hearts. True worship begins in our hearts and flows out through our bodies, specifically through our mouths in songs of praise. Today’s word, “worship,” comes from the Old English, “worthship” meaning to ascribe worth or value to someone or something. When we value God in our hearts, we worship Him; the more value we ascribe to Him, the deeper our worship becomes. Pastors and other worship leaders can help point us to worship, but actual worship is a personal experience that only individuals can achieve. Jesus said in Matthew 6:21 “For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also.” What do you treasure? Whom do you treasure? God is impressive, but don’t just be impressed with Him—worship Him!
