Hello, this is pastor gary from first baptist church of laplata. Today’s Throwback Thursday is from Saturday, August 29, 2020. Did you hear about the contest last Friday between a concrete truck and a freight train in Waldorf? The freight train won. Thankfully, no one was hurt, but the vehicles did get damaged: the concrete truck will never run again, and the train got dented. I’m not sure why the concrete truck was on the tracks in the first place. Maybe the engine stalled or maybe the driver didn’t see or hear the oncoming train or maybe the driver was in a competitive mood. Most likely though, the truck driver was in a hurry to get to the next stop. If this is the case, the old saying applies: “Haste makes waste.” Any challenge to a train always looses. A former president famously and hypocritically said that one should not bring a knife to a gun fright. Debbie was riding an Amtrak train when a chicken truck challenged the train: the train won, the truck lost, and chickens—living and dead–went everywhere. While God can protect us from an oncoming train, we must learn from Jesus when He reminded Satan on the temple pinnacle not to tempt God. As far as being in a hurry goes, allow the fruit of the Spirit, which includes patience, to reign in your heart and life. Slow down, stop and smell the roses, and let the trains of life pass on by.
