Hello, this is pastor gary from first baptist church of laplata. I’m not a big sports fan, but I will watch or play just about any sport if invited to do so; consequently, I don’t follow sports news. Even so, I did recently learn a new term from the sports world: eSports; the “e” stands for “electronic.” There are now competitive teams at both the high school and college levels that play video game sports against each other; these games are watched annually by 454 million viewers and generate over a billion dollars in advertising revenue. These “e-athletes” are not necessarily in good physical shape, like their athletic counterparts, but their brains and fingers are quick. I suppose eSports is much safer than traditional sports, but I don’t see eSports attracting a stadium full of fans lead by cheerleaders chanting at the top of their lungs. Of course, a stadium full of cheering fans can probably be programmed into the gaming system. So much of our world is becoming virtual—especially since COVID–and people are spending less and less time in actual, personal interaction; this is not God’s intent—particularly for His church. Hebrews 10:25 states, “Not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as the manner of some is, but exhorting one another and so much the more as ye see the day approaching.” We need to be together, and we should want to be together, so let’s get together: see you Sunday!
