Hello, this is pastor gary from first baptist church of laplata. Today in history, in 1866, the first train robbery in America occurred. The bandits robbed a train in Jackson County, Indiana, and made off with $13,000.00 in cash. While trains had been robbed before at depots and in rail yards, this was the first time that a moving train was stopped and robbed. The Reno Brothers have the infamous distinction of inventing this form of robbery. Though first used in Indiana, the concept quickly spread across the West. The railroads were not going to take these robberies sitting down, so they began putting valuables in heavy safes surrounded by armed guards. In addition, some railroads added an extra boxcar with horses with which guards could chase down the would-be thieves of an attempted robbery and end their criminal careers…permanently. The word “robbery” is used seven times in the King James Bible, but the most profound use is found in Philippians 2:6 in which the Apostle Paul writes concerning Jesus Christ, “Who being in the form of God thought it not robbery to be equal with God.” While this does not refer to actual robbery, as do the other six references, this means that rather than using His divinity to His own advantage, Jesus humbled Himself and obediently died on the cross to pay for the sins of all who believe.
