Hello, this is pastor gary from first baptist church of laplata. Ohio is the home of the famous Wright Brothers who built the first successful powered airplane. On its new automobile license plates, Ohio wanted to honor these men for their achievement. At the top of the plate is the Wright Flyer airplane to which is attached a banner that reads, “Birthplace of Aviation.” The intention was to show the airplane pulling the banner; however, as rendered, the plane is actually pushing the banner. Not only would that not work in real life, but neither can airplanes fly backwards which is what the airplane is shown doing. Unlike modern aircraft, the Wright Flyer had the elevator in the front and the propellers in the back, so the mistake is understandable—but not by Ohioans trying to stake their aviation claim! You might say the license plates had the Wright plane but the wrong design. Alexander Pope famously wrote, “To err is human; to forgive is divine.” People are imperfect, but God is perfect. People sin, but God does not. Thankfully, God forgives us when we sin. I John 1:9 makes it clear, “If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.”
