Hello, this is pastor gary from first baptist church of laplata. Today’s “Throwback Thursday” is from Saturday, September 5, 2020. Romantic love and marriage is a wonderful gift from God. There are no perfect couples, but some have more work to do than others. For instance, I read of an engaged couple near Pittsburgh who were arrested for a domestic dispute. Arguments between engaged or married couples is not unusual, but what made this quarrel noteworthy was that both individuals had punched each other in the face and both drew guns on each other! I would say these two have some serious issues and should get further counseling before tying the knot—maybe they should reconsider the whole marriage altogether. Both were locked up, but one was released on bail while the other remained in the slammer adding insult to injury. The Bible in Ephesians 5:25 commands men to love their wives as Christ loved the church; the word love in this verse is the Greek word agape which is used elsewhere of God’s love for His people. Titus 2:4 instructs women to love their husbands; the word love in this verse is the Greek word philos which refers to brotherly love. Neither one of these Greek words for love allows for fist fights or gunfights. They say that love is blind, which I suppose is true, but until this week, I never knew love could be so violent and dangerous!
