Hello, this is pastor gary from first baptist church of laplata. The English word “benevolence” comes from two words in Latin: “bene,” meaning “good” and “velle” meaning “to wish.” So benevolence is the wish to do good. In the church, benevolence is not just wishing good but doing good—actually helping others. Most of the time, helping others takes money: that’s why our Deacons manage the church’s benevolence fund. Due to the distribution of benevolence funds over the past year, our church’s benevolence fund is depleted; however, the needs of our church family are not. The Deacons have recently learned about a very large need that some very dear, faithful church members have, and the Deacons would like to meet that need. This will require your help. That is why this Sunday, November 14, we will be taking a special offering in both morning services to help meet this need. Please prayerfully consider a generous gift to help. Addressing the “rich in this world” in I Timothy 6:18, Paul instructs, “That they do good, that they be rich in good works, ready to distribute, willing to communicate.” You may think you are not rich, but compared to most of the rest of the world, you are–but only by God’s grace.
