Hello, this is pastor gary from first baptist church of laplata. The Jewish world is having a dietary crisis these days. You probably know that Jews don’t eat pork based on Old Testament laws, but can they eat plant-based pork? Reconstituted plants that look and taste like pork–but are not pork–have rabbis questioning what is permitted. So far, rabbis have decided that no matter how it is made, if it is called “pork” it can’t be eaten. Rabbis have already required that turkey or beef bacon be called “facon” in order to be considered kosher. So not only is there a biblical prohibition against pork, but rabbis have added their own prohibition if it has an unapproved name. This is a perfect example of legalism in modern times. God says one thing, and people add something to it then consider both to be authoritative. Not only is this happening with kosher food, but God’s salvation is similarly corrupted. People are saved by grace alone, through faith alone, in Christ alone; but people are not satisfied with the simplicity, so they add baptism, church membership, financial giving, and other good deeds into the mix. I’m glad we no longer have to worry about dietary laws; I’m also glad that I don’t have to trust myself for my salvation. I am saved by God’s grace through His gift of faith with nothing additional required. Pass the pork chops, please!
