Hello, this is pastor gary from first baptist church of laplata. Today’s “Throwback Thursday” is from Saturday, September 12, 2020. Doctors routinely misdiagnose diseases, but a woman in Detroit received a misdiagnosis of her own death last month…her death! EMT’s responded to a 20 year old unresponsive woman, and after 30 minutes of standard resuscitation procedures, determined that she had passed. The coroner’s office confirmed her death, and the funeral home was contacted to retrieve the body. Upon arrival at the funeral home and examining the body, the funeral home employees noticed that the woman had her eyes open and was breathing. Surprisingly, officials said in an interview that this occurrence is not entirely uncommon. I am reminded of the old joke about men sitting around discussing what they want be said at their respective funerals. Standard niceties are suggested, but one guy says, “I want to hear someone say, ‘Hey, look, he’s moving!’” Nobody is perfect, so mistakes in every field of public service are to be expected; however, misdiagnosing death should not be one of those mistakes. Everyone has an appointment with death as Hebrews 9:27 reminds us, “And as it is appointed unto men once to die but after this the judgment.” I guess the lady in question didn’t miss her appointment—she was just early!
