Hello, this is pastor gary from first baptist church of laplata. Last week’s tornadoes in Kentucky claimed many lives and did incredible damage, but did you hear about the guy who went back into his home after the storm finding his roof blown off but his piano still sitting in the living room? Surrounded by destruction, he decided to sit down and play, “There’s Just Something about that Name,” a classic Gaither tune about the name of Jesus. While the man had no intentions of reaching others with his piano playing, his sister recorded and posted his mini-concert online garnering millions of views. Countless people responded that the performance as well as the song itself gave them hope during their apparently hopeless situation after the storm. This man’s home was destroyed, but his faith was not. The lyrics state, “Kings and kingdoms will all pass away, but there’s something about that name.” This man’s personal kingdom, his house, was gone, but The Kingdom of the King of kings remained unchanged. Gloria Gaither, who wrote the song, was asked for her thoughts; she said, “A song appears in somebody’s life when they need it, evidently.” Jesus had this to say about possessions in Luke 12:15, “…a man’s life consisteth not in the abundance of the things which he posseseth.” In this life, it’s not what you have but Who you have that matters.
