Hello, this is pastor gary from first baptist church of laplata. Do you remember those missionaries who were kidnapped in Haiti back in October? We prayed publicly for their safe release from captivity in church for several Sundays. All of those missionaries have been free since December 15. While a few were released early due to medical problems, twelve remained captive in a 10×12 foot room guarded by armed gangsters. The missionaries say that God miraculously delivered them; however, they had to plan and make their own escape. They loosened the door ahead of time, packed water in their clothing, and waited for the guard shift change around three o’clock in the morning. They left in the dark traveling through irrigation ditches and cactus fields until finally making it to a farmer’s house where they requested to use a telephone. The farmer did not have a phone, but his nearby neighbors did who just happened to be Christian church musicians rehearsing at that time. A phone call was made, then the FBI and Coast Guard got involved to bring all of the missionaries back home. We are grateful that our fellow believers are home and unharmed, but if the missionaries had to plan everything and sneak away through difficult terrain, was this really a divinely orchestrated miraculous escape? God gave them the plan, God allowed the door to be loosened, God hid the escape activities from the guards, God gave the escapees safe passage through the unknown countryside to the home of Christians, and the missionaries say that God gave them a sign as to when to leave. The deliverance was miraculous because God orchestrated the whole thing! The missionaries are right to give God praise for their deliverance and freedom!
