Hello, this is pastor gary from first baptist church of laplata. I’ve got some bad news. Scientists have recently calculated that the sun will completely burn out in about 5 trillion years. And it gets worse: the sun will stop making heat and light for earth as we know it in just 5 billion years. And still more bad news: as the sun dies, it will expand stripping earth of its atmosphere and vaporizing earth’s oceans in 1.5 billion years. As if we didn’t have enough to worry about with inflation and infection, we now have to worry about life without the sun! Is this information we humans even need to know? Should humanity survive billions or trillions of years into the future, those humans will certainly be better able to examine and analyze the sun and its activity. Why do humans care about some incalculable future instead of what is important today? The Bible says in II Corinthians 6:2 “…now is the day of salvation.” People spend money, time and energy looking into an unknown future and ignoring what matters right now. I’m not worried about the future whether you’ re talking about 5 billion years from now or tomorrow. Why? Because while I don’t know what the future holds, I do know Who holds the future.
