Hello, this is pastor gary from first baptist church of laplata. This is a darker devotion because it deals with suicide. If you remember Charley Brown from the Peanuts cartoon, you know that everything always went wrong for him. He received no valentines on Valentine’s Day, he got no egg from the Easter Beagle on Easter, he got rocks instead of candy for Halloween, and he got a sickly tree for Christmas. Though he had an extremely talented and imaginative dog named Snoopy, Charley Brown was a loser. He was such a loser that his best friend, Linus, once had to admit, “Of all the Charley Browns in the world, you are the Charley Browniest.” Even so, the Charley Brown character weathered his constant storms and pushed on to the next day. Ironically, the man who voiced Charley Brown committed suicide last month. This is ironic because the character persevered through every trial, but his voice could not. Suicide is tragic regardless of the circumstances; however, in the Bible we see two opposite responses: King Saul committed suicide and received an honorable burial; Judas committed suicide and did not. It is the divine prerogative to take human life: abortion, euthanasia, murder, and suicide all violate this prerogative. Human life is precious and must be protected at all stages and at all costs.
