Hello, this is pastor gary from first baptist church of laplata. Desperate times call for desperate measures. In Ukraine, private citizens are being issued weapons with which to defend themselves and their country. AK-47’s and AR-15’s, dreaded by gun control advocates in America, are being handed out like candy along with rocket-propelled grenade launchers to any Ukrainian citizen who wants them. Should Ukraine be doing this? Of course they should! A well-armed citizenry makes invasions less likely; whether a home invasion—or a homeland invasion—free people must be free to defend themselves. Our brilliant Founding Fathers had the same idea behind the Second Amendment of our Constitution: “The right of the people to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed.” Our Founders did not want to issue us our weapons, they wanted us to acquire our own weapons and use them for any necessary purpose. As Rush Limbaugh famously said, “You know why there’s a Second Amendment? In case the government fails to follow the first one.” The Second Amendment was not written so we could go hunting, but so we could defend ourselves—even against our own government gone astray. People have a God-given right to self defense that can be found in Exodus 22:2 which states, “If a thief be found breaking up and be smitten that he die, there shall no blood be shed for him.” The Declaration of Independence says that I have the right to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness; owning a variety of firearms makes me happy…and keeps me safe.
