Hello, this is pastor gary from first baptist church of laplata. I am a fan of McDonald’s; I don’t eat there too often because too much of a good thing is not a good thing. As a child, I used to order 4 hamburgers, 2 large fries, and a strawberry milkshake; I could have eaten more, but at least I didn’t leave hungry. McDonald’s has now introduced what they call “Menu Hacks” that allow customers to combine sandwiches; for instance, there is the “Surf and Turf” which combines a burger with a “Filet-O-Fish.” Another hack is the “Air, Land, and Sea” which combines a burger, “Filet-o-Fish,” and “McChicken.” Not only do these hacks sound disgusting, some make for rather large sandwiches. Here’s the catch to the hack: you have to build the sandwich yourself; when you order one of these hacks, you are given 2 or 3 sandwiches which you must fashion into the final product. These hacks remind me of Peter’s vision in Acts 10 in which he was shown a variety of animals and was told to eat them. Peter refused based on his Jewish background saying, “Not so, Lord, for I have never eaten any thing that is common or unclean”; but God informed him, “What God hath cleansed, that call not thou common.” The vision wasn’t actually about eating forbidden food but about welcoming Gentiles into the church. As a Gentile myself, I am glad that God has cleaned me up and welcomed me into His family. As far as McDonald’s goes, I’m not going to be trying one of these menu hacks–I’m sticking with the beef.
