Hello, this is pastor gary from first baptist church of laplata. Happy Pi Day! Today’s date is 3/14 which is a day that mathematicians and foodies anticipate all year long. Pi, otherwise known as “Archimedes Constant,” represents the ratio of a circle’s circumference to its diameter. The fraction is 22/7ths, but the digital form is 3.14, hence today’s date, 3/14. Pi is not just used by mathematicians but by almost every discipline from construction to the medical field. Foodies like to celebrate Pi day because Pi, P-i, sounds like pie, p-i-e, so plans are made to eat desert pie or pizza pie—or both! If you’re out and about today, you may notice $3.14 Pi Day specials on both of these foods. In our ever-changing world, it is nice to have something that is constant, like Pi, that never changes. As believers, we have another, much greater constant: God. God never changes; He is the ultimate constant. Theologians call this attribute of God “immutability,” but I call it comforting. We can always count on God to be the same no matter what. Hebrews 13:8 puts it like this, “Jesus Christ: the same yesterday and today and forever.” An uneducated farmer sent his son off to college. When his son returned home on break, the farmer asked his son what he had learned. The son had just finished a math course, so he told his father pi-r-squared, which is the formula to find the area of a circle. The visibly disappointed father told his son, “I don’t know what they are teaching you off in that college, but everybody knows that pie are round—not square!” I hope you get to eat some pie today!
