Hello, this is pastor gary from first baptist church of laplata. The United States Civil War was anything but civil; it was actually a worst case scenario pitting against each other the world’s most innovative and imaginative people: Americans. One of the naval innovations of the war was the ironclad ships. These vessels, covered in iron, were impervious to cannonballs and essentially invincible. On this date in history, one of the most famous American naval battles occurred: the epic—but uneventful—battle between the CSS Virginia and USS Monitor off Hampton Roads, VA. The two ironclads spent all morning circling one another jockeying for position firing cannonballs at each other which just glanced off the iron. After four hours of battle, both ships pulled away with only minor damages. The ironclads remind me of God’s protection of His children. Psalm 118:6 reminds us, “The Lord is on my side; I will not fear: what can man do unto me?” Nothing can happen to us that God has not already known and providentially decreed. Further, we have the promise from Romans 8:28 that “…all things work together for good to them that love God…” Let us face the challenges of today with God’s ironclad assurance!
