Hello, this is pastor gary from first baptist church of laplata. A driver in Daytona Beach, Florida did something yesterday I’ve always wanted to do but have neither had the courage nor the skills to do—he busted through the drawbridge gates of an opening drawbridge and jumped the bridge opening. That takes guts—and a little bit of crazy. Things like this happen in the movies all of the time, but I didn’t think people in the real world did them. I guess the guy was in a hurry—and so was the motorcyclist who did the same thing on the same bridge last month. The rules of the road are designed to keep everyone safe. If everyone obeys the rules, traffic flows and people arrive at their destinations safe and sound. Accidents usually occur when drivers disobey the rules of the road; of course human error and mechanical failures can lead to accidents as well. The rules of the road are like the Ten Commandments: the former are rules for driving and the latter are rules for living. Road rules don’t keep us from driving: they just tell us how to drive. The Ten Commandments don’t keep us from living: they just tell us how to live. Since the Ten Commandments are almost evenly split with half concerning God and half concerning man, living one’s life by the Ten Commandments not only pleases God, but pleases people at the same time. And by the way, there are a lot less commandments than there are rules of the road!
