Hello, this is pastor gary from first baptist church of laplata. A high school track runner in Utah was upstaged last Friday as her sure victory across the finish line was snatched from her by an entirely different species: a canine. As Gracie Laney was approaching the finish line of her relay race, a dog named “Holly,” broke away from her owner and began chasing the relay baton. The runner heard the crowd getting louder and assumed another runner was coming up behind her; she was right, but this runner was the four-legged variety—not two. Though Holly the dog crossed the finish line first, the official win was given to Gracie the human. The writer of Hebrews compares living the Christian life to running a race in Hebrews 12:1 when he states, “…let us lay aside every weight and the sin which doth so easily beset us and let us run with patience the race that is set before us.” The Christian life is not a sprint, relay, or even a marathon. Once one receives Christ as personal Savior, the running begins and does not stop until the finish line is crossed into the glorious beauty of heaven!
