Hello, this is pastor gary from first baptist church of laplata. Since beginning this daily call in response to the pandemic back on March 21, 2020, we have added more listeners through phone numbers and the recent podcast; therefore, I am instituting my own version of “Throwback Thursdays” when I will share a re-run that our new listeners have not heard. This just happens to be my personal favorite from Tuesday, March 31, 2020. I was impressed watching video of the US Navy Hospital Ship, “Comfort” sail into New York Harbor yesterday. As a patriot and a strong supporter of the military, I appreciate the resources our great nation has to not only fight wars but also to help heal combatants. The ship is amazing with its 1000 beds and 12 operating rooms, but it also has red crosses emblazoned on all sides. I know that the medical red cross is borrowed from the International Red Cross which borrowed the cross symbol from Switzerland; however, the symbolism of a blood red cross on a huge white ship didn’t go unnoticed by me. Jesus was just one man Who shed His red blood on a relatively small cross making all who believe clean and white. Be impressed with our military, but be more impressed with our Savior! Hear again the words of the hymnist: “Whiter than snow; yes, whiter than snow Now wash me and I shall be whiter than snow.”
