Hello, this is pastor gary from first baptist church of laplata. Michael Collins, the so-called “forgotten astronaut,” just passed away Wednesday; if you don’t know or remember who he was, Michael Collins was the Command Module pilot for Apollo 11, the mission during which mankind first walked on the moon. While Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin navigated the “Eagle” to the surface of the moon together, Michael Collins was left all alone orbiting the moon in “Columbia.” During that time, Collins was the most isolated man in history: he was up to 2200 miles away from his crew members on the surface of the moon and 240,000 miles from everybody else on earth. Talk about having your privacy! God made people to be social creatures; not only are we designed for matrimonial relationship but also for simple friendship. I am sure Michael Collins had lots of friends, but during his time in lunar orbit he had to be the loneliest man ever! Once God finished His work of Creation, and proclaimed everything to be good, He noticed one thing in creation that was not good: Adam’s aloneness. Listen to Genesis 2:18, “And the Lord God said, ‘It is not good that the man should be alone; I will make an help meet for him.’” As the saying goes, God created the heavens and the earth and rested; then He created man and rested; then God created woman; since then neither God nor man has rested!
