Hello, this is pastor gary from first baptist church of laplata. A recent study shows that the birth of twins is at an all-time high. While the exact the reason for the uptick is unknown, fertility clinics seem to be part of the cause. The most famous twins in the Bible are the first ever-recorded which were Esau and Jacob. Esau was the firstborn, but he traded his birthright to his barely-younger brother for dinner. Jacob later had his name changed to Israel and became the father of twelve sons who became the twelve tribes of Israel. Perez and Zerah were twins born to Judah, one of Israel’s sons; King David–and eventually Jesus–came from Perez. Ephraim and Manasseh were probably the twin sons of Joseph, the Egyptian savior of the Hebrews. The Apostle Thomas, also known as “Doubting Thomas” was a twin based on his name which means “twin” and his surname, “Didymus,” which means “double.” While Thomas is given a hard time for doubting, he is the first to declare that Jesus is divine in John 20:28: “And Thomas answered and said unto Him, ‘My Lord and My God.” While twins do not run in my family, Debbie and I essentially had twins with our older children; because they are adopted siblings, they came to live with us at the same time. One day we had no children, and the next day, we had two! Though not actual twins, they were equal in size and maturity, so they might as well have been. Since every child is a blessing from God, then twins must be His double blessing!
Speaking of children, all children are invited to the Easter fun day at 1pm at the church today. There will be a Bible story, a craft, and an egg hunt with small prizes.
