Hello, this is pastor gary from first baptist church of laplata. Two notable achievements occurred on this date in history. The first was in 1869: The Transcontinental Railroad was completed at Promontory Point, Utah, and commemorated with the driving of a golden spike. The second was in 1877: President Rutherford B. Hayes had the first telephone installed in the White House. While both of these achievements seem ordinary to us today, they were revolutionary in their time. For instance, prior to the railroad, crossing the nation by wagon took 6 months, but a train could make the trip in just seven days. Do you know what the White House’s original phone number was? It was one; no, not one plus ten more digits—just one. Talk about your speed dial! So there is Air Force One, Marine One, and Phone One. Both of these transportation and communication innovations served to unite our country as never before. Jesus is Who unites us as Christians; in fact, The Apostle Paul wrote that Jesus is our head, and we are His body. There is one body—not many. His body has a global presence and a local presence, and both are known as the church. Since there is more that unites us than divides us, let us serve under the Head of Christ as the body of Christ to reach the world for Christ!
