Hello, this is pastor gary from first baptist church of laplata. Welcome once again to “Throwback Thursdays” when I share a re-run that our new listeners have not heard and one that vintage listeners may have forgotten. This one is from Tuesday, May 12, 2020. Baptists are known for being teetotalers, and our abstinence from alcohol has plenty of strong support in Scripture. No sincere Christian would argue that drunkenness is sinful, so the very best way to ever avoid being drunk is not to drink in the first place. If you are a drinker, how do you know that your drinking has become a problem? The case of Gabriel Moreno in Modesta ,California, from last Wednesday should leave no doubt. Mr. Moreno got a tanker truck filled with wine to pull over on the shoulder. Once the truck driver realized that Mr. Moreno was not in trouble nor was he a law enforcement officer, he pulled his truck back onto the highway. Mr. Moreno jumped on the truck as it was pulling away, climbed underneath, opened a drain valve and began drinking wine while speeding down the highway. The trucking company lost 1000 gallons of wine in the heist, and Mr. Moreno got a silver bracelet for each wrist and a free ride in a police car. Mr. Moreno’s drinking problem began with his first taste; had he never started drinking, he never would have tried to drink 5000 gallons of alcohol at 70 mph hanging from the bottom of a tanker truck!
