Hello, this is pastor gary from first baptist church of laplata. Today’s “Throwback Thursday” is from Friday, December 4, 2020. We are impressed when a company has been in business for a long time. The company is usually proud of itself as well stating something like, “In business since 1953,” or some such. There is a business in Japan that takes the cake…literally. They have been in business since AD 1000 making rice cake candy, called “mochi,” for pilgrims visiting an ancient, sacred site. Same place, same candy, for a over a millennium; now that’s a long time to be in business and represents a long-term commitment! According to the current owner, generations have continued the family business because nobody wants to be the one who gave up. God’s commitment to us is not millennial but eternal, and we believers make an eternal commitment to Him. Receiving Christ as Savior is not only for time but for eternity. While we will reign with Christ for 1000 years—ALMOST as long as the Japanese candy store has been in business—we will spend eternity with Him in the “new heavens and the new earth wherein dwelleth righteousness” according to II Peter 3:13.
