Hello, this is pastor gary from first baptist church of laplata. We’ve all suffered through COVID-19—some more than others—but the end seemed near; however, COVID-19 keeps re-surging in a slightly different variation. If that weren’t enough, now we hear that monkeypox has reached our shores! What is monkeypox? It is a cousin of the smallpox virus which produces skin lesions after flu-like symptoms. Oh, yeah, and there is no medication or other medical treatment available. The smallpox vaccination provides protection for monkeypox, so those vaccinated should be covered; however, the US discontinued widespread smallpox vaccinations in 1972. I must say it sounds like we are living in the last days as described by Jesus in Matthew 24:7 where He said, “For nation shall rise against nation and kingdom against kingdom and there shall be famines, and pestilences, and earthquakes in divers places.” The word pestilences refers to diseases. So let’s see: war, famine, disease, and earthquakes; yep, we’ve got all that. But rather than worry about the latest COVID, monkeypox, or other pestilence news, be encouraged: Jesus is coming soon! In Luke 21:28, Jesus said, “And when these things begin to come to pass then look up and lift up your heads for your redemption draweth nigh.”
