Hello, this is pastor gary from first baptist church of laplata. One marvel of human engineering that I would like to visit one day is the Great Wall of China. Even though our Chinese house guest is from China, she has never been to the Great Wall; she says that it is too crowded. I told her that with 1.4 billion people living in China, everywhere is crowded! Anyway, this massive wall is over 13,000 miles long and 2300 years old. What is the secret to the longevity of the Great Wall? Rice. That’s right, scientific analysis has shown that the Chinese used sticky rice in addition to standard lime in their mortar mix which has helped contribute to the wall’s strength and durability. Built to keep the invading Mongols out of China, this lasting symbol of Chinese protectionism is one of the wonders of the ancient world. In the Bible, Nehemiah was known for building a wall in Jerusalem for the same purpose; you see, walls work. Nehemiah rebuilt the walls of Jerusalem to protect the city from invaders. Walls belong on any borders and around any cities or installations that are subject to invasion. Where walls don’t belong is between people and God and between believers. As the Apostle Paul writes in Ephesians 2:14 & 16, “For He is our peace Who hath made both one, and hath broken down the middle wall of partition between us…that He might reconcile both unto God in one body by the cross…”
