Hello, this is pastor gary from first baptist church of laplata. Today’s “Throwback Thursday” is from Monday, November 23, 2020. I read that Patuxent Naval Air Station has issued a noise advisory starting tomorrow for pilots practicing landing on aircraft carriers. Pilots practice landing on a simulated carrier on the ground before they try the real thing on the water. My favorite part of flying an airplane is landing, but I have no interest in landing a plane on a runway that is way too short and is bobbing up and down and side to side. I have great respect for these pilots who are able to perform this very difficult task otherwise known as a controlled crash. Landing on a carrier is kind of like rich people going to heaven; Jesus said in Matthew 19:24 that “…it is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for a rich man to enter into the Kingdom of God”; in other words, it is virtually impossible. Whether Jesus was referring to an actual needle or a well-known city gate with a low overhead is irrelevant. What matters is that people in Jesus’ day thought that rich people’s wealth was evidence that they were saved. Jesus taught just the opposite: rich people generally don’t think they need God, so they either ignore Him or reject Him outright. Whether you are rich or poor, you need God just the same. Only He has the power to grant eternal life to those Who belong to Him.
