Hello, this is pastor gary from first baptist church of laplata. In the classic film, “Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory,” Augustus Gloop falls into the chocolate river while drinking from it. In a similar fashion, two workers at the Mars/M&M factory near Hershey, PA, were working above a vat of chocolate when they fell into it. Though trapped, the workers were not in immediate danger because the chocolate was only waist high. Unable to extract themselves from the vat, rescue workers were called who cut a whole in the bottom of the vat to drain the workers. This story just makes me wonder if this was a workplace accident, or if it was done accidentally on purpose. Like, one workers says to the other, “Do you dare me to jump into this vat of chocolate?” To which the other says, “No, I double-dog dare you.” As we all know, a double-dog dare must be carried out. Once the first worker is in the vat enjoying his chocolate bath, the other worker dives in without even being dared to do so. Once they realize they are trapped they realize something else: they are in deep…chocolate. Hebrews 11:25 indicates that sin is pleasurable for a season. Sin is attractive and even enjoyable for a short time. Once the consequences of that sin begin to manifest themselves, we sinners realize that we are not only in trouble, we are trapped. Thankfully Jesus is there to rescue us by grace through faith; He doesn’t just drain us from our vat of sin, He lifts us out of our sin and removes our sin completely.
