God’s Grace with Gary 6/24/22

Hello, this is pastor gary from first baptist church of laplata. I read an article Wednesday about a man who was arrested for domestic abuse. What made this arrest stand out to me was how the man defended himself against the police: he used his head. I do not mean that this man used logic and intelligence, I mean he literally used his head. He head-butted the arresting officer, then once he was handcuffed, he head-butted the wall. Once in the police car, he head-butted the window causing it to shatter. The man was taken to the hospital emergency room where he told another police officer, “You’re next.” For all his head-butting, this man has nothing to show for it—he did not elude his captors, and he will have to pay for one wall and one window. All he got out of this whole mess was a 7-count rap sheet and a splitting headache! While we can live without certain parts of our body, we cannot live without a head. The head contains the brain which runs everything else. Likewise, the church can survive without some of its parts, but it cannot survive without its head, which is Jesus Christ. Ephesians 5:23 states, “…Christ is the head of the church, and He is the Savior of the body.” Many churches today have become disconnected from their head; they continue to meet, but they are no longer alive. May we remain connected to the Head, established on the Word, and focused on the mission!
