Hello, this is pastor gary from first baptist church of laplata. Today’s “Throwback Thursday” is from Saturday, December 12, 2020. I’m no art connoisseur, but I do appreciate genuine artistic ability while having no patience or appreciation for “modern art” that any child having a temper tantrum while throwing handsful of paint could produce. Recently, a businessman carrying a cardboard-wrapped painting worth $350,000.00 left his valuable masterpiece at the airport check-in counter. I don’t know just when he realized that he had left his masterpiece behind, but I’m sure he had the worst flight ever worrying about it. Once he landed and contacted the authorities, the artwork was nowhere to be found. Eventually, a police inspector was able to trace down the painting to the bottom of a paper recycling bin at the airport having been tossed in there by the airport’s cleaning service. Like they say, one man’s trash is another man’s treasure. Pulling the valuable piece of art from the trash dumpster reminds me of God’s grace. People are lost in the trash heap of sin until Someone comes searching for us, finds us, and lifts us out. That same Someone restores us to our Owner and Creator and we are eternally treasured and valued. That Someone is Jesus. As for the painting, it was an abstract landscape done in the surrealist style and was not worth rescuing, in my opinion; however, that is exactly what Satan would say about each one of us.
