Hello, this is pastor gary from first baptist church of laplata. Today’s “Throwback Thursday” is from Monday, January 11, 2021. We’ve all heard the expression about “laughing our heads off,” but that is an expression—no one actually loses his head while laughing; however, there was a double-amputee skydiver in Vermont recently who was enjoying himself so much as he jumped from an airplane that he lost one of his prosthetic legs. In his own words, the skydiver was experiencing an adrenaline rush and didn’t realize he’d lost the expensive limb. Once safely on the ground, the skydiver posted his loss on social media, and a local farmer began looking for the leg, which he eventually found. While sustaining some scratches, the leg was undamaged, ready for use. Jesus tells a series of three parables about seeking something valuable in Luke 15. He opens with the lost sheep, then tells of the lost coin, and ends with the piece de resistance, the lost son, otherwise known as “The Prodigal Son.” Each parable ends with rejoicing over finding what was lost. Since parables are earthly stories with heavenly meanings, Jesus ties the parables into sinners and repentance stating in verse 10, “…there is joy in the presence of the angels of God over one sinner that repenteth.” Before people are saved, we are lost. God comes looking for us, finds us, saves us, rejoices over us, and keeps us forever. What a great God we serve!
