Hello, this is pastor Gary from FBC of laplata. The old Christian song
from 1932, “No one ever cared for me like Jesus” has its origins in
heartbreak. Charles Weigle was a travelling evangelist. When he
returned home from one of his speaking engagements, Weigle found a note
from his wife. She said that she was tired of being the wife of an
evangelist and wanted to get all that the world had to offer her, so she
left taking their only son with her. Left all alone, Weigle was unable
to continue his itinerate ministry. One day while sitting by the lake,
Weigle considered taking his own life by walking off a nearby pier. At
that lowest point of his life, Weigle sensed God still cared for him.
Shortly thereafter the words came to Weigle for the song. Hear the
chorus again, “No one ever cared for me like Jesus. There’s no other
friend so kind as He. No one else could take the sin and darkness from
me. O how much He cared for me.” Being a believer does not keep us
from difficulties or tragedies—it virtually guarantees them; however, in
the midst of our trials, Jesus is still Immanuel, God with us; and
through His indwelling Spirit, He is God in us. Tragically, Weigle’s
wife only lived five more years to get all the world had to offer her.
Charles Weigle died with a broken heart but a firm faith in His Savior
and Friend, Christ Jesus.
