Hello, this is pastor gary from first baptist church of laplata. Today’s “Throwback Thursday” is from Tuesday, January 12, 2021. Back on April 16th, I shared a story about a woman in Italy who got arrested for walking her turtle without a leash during COVID lockdown. Another lady in Canada just got a ticket for walking her pet ON a leash during lockdown; the problem was, her pet was human. While putting family members on leashes is strange, it seems to be a rather creative way to get around lockdown restrictions; however, the police didn’t buy the lady’s argument. The lady also told the police that she was not paying the fine. The stalemate hinges on the question of why it is legal to walk one’s dog but not one’s significant other. I am sure the answer has to do with what is being done on the walk besides exercise; people are able to handle certain activities inside while dogs can not—at least not without getting punished. Even so, Jesus taught in Matthew 10:31 that people are more valuable than animals when He said, “…ye are of more value than many sparrows.” As far as dogs go, Jesus and His fellow Jews at the time didn’t care for them at all. Since people are more valuable than animals, people should have at least equal rights to animals. I’m not recommending you leash up your family members for a walk, but I am suggesting that you should have the right to do so.
