Hello, this is pastor gary from first baptist church of laplata. The Bible does not mention firearms since the first firearm was not invented until about 1300 years after the Bible was written; however, the Bible does mention weapons such as knives, swords, spears, and stones. The Bible also teaches a God-given right to self defense in Exodus 22:2. While the Bible may not mention firearms, the US Constitution does in the Second Amendment that says, “The right of the people to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed.” It is ironic how people can find the right for a person to kill a defenseless baby in the Constitution, but they can’t find the right for a person to defend himself with a firearm. The Constitution says nothing about abortion, but it is explicit about firearms. Thanks to a recent Supreme Court ruling overturning a very restrictive firearm law in New York, Maryland’s Governor Hogan yesterday directed the Maryland State Police “to immediately suspend utilization of the ‘good and substantial reason’ standard when reviewing applications for Wear and Carry Permits.” According to our Founding Fathers, you don’t need a reason to own or carry a firearm—it is your right. So is the solution to all of our societal ills just having more armed citizens? No, our nation needs Jesus. But until they receive Him, we have the God-given right to protect ourselves from them with a firearm!
