Hello, this is pastor gary from first baptist church of laplata. I love amusement parks and roller coasters. On this date in history, in 1961, the Six Flags Over Texas amusement park opened. While Six Flags was not the first amusement park by far, it did open with many firsts:first log flume, first mine ride, first parachute drop, first river rapids ride, first looping coaster, and first one price admission ticket. Six Flags was built to be a temporary fixture; Agnes Wynne, Jr. hoped to make a few dollars from some vacant land that he planned to develop into an industrial complex; however, once he recouped his initial investment in only 18 months, he decided the park was here to stay. The park was named Six Flags Over Texas because it was built in Texas, and Texas has been governed by six different nations: France, Spain, Mexico, The Confederate States of America, the Republic of Texas, and the United States. The original name was Texas Under Six Flags, but we Texans don’t like Texas to be under anything! I really like Six Flags’ one price admission concept; it reminds me of Heaven: the one price is the blood of Christ. While admission is free to us, we can only access Heaven one way: by grace alone through faith alone in Christ alone.
