Hello, this is pastor gary from first baptist church of laplata. Did you hear about the bishop in Brooklyn, NY, who was robbed at gunpoint during a church service three weeks ago? Three armed and masked men walked into the church during the service taking jewelry from the bishop and his wife with a value of $1 million. The incident was captured on video and shows the bishop laying down on the platform and complying with the gunmen. Because this bishop has his own checkered past and a current lavish lifestyle, accusations have been leveled that the robbery was staged for an insurance settlement. I am grateful that we have a security team at First Baptist to help keep the bad guys out of our church services; I think that being robbed at gunpoint during a sermon could be very distracting. Though First Baptist is much larger than this bishop’s “Leaders of Tomorrow International Ministries” Church, I don’t think thieves would get $1 million by robbing everyone in all three of our Sunday services for an entire year. If someone were to rob me on a Sunday, he would get my clothes, my Bible, and my sermon notes—I don’t even carry my phone into the pulpit. The bishop has cited the Bible to indicate that God will restore twice as much as was stolen. If he really got robbed, I hope he is right, but I recommend he use some of that cool $2 million to hire a security service!
