Hello, this is pastor gary from first baptist church of laplata. Here’s an unusual news story with a happy ending. A Colorado mother left her 4 year old son in the unlocked, running car while she made a quick trip into the store to get milk. While inside, a thief stole her car—and her son. Once the thief realized there was a child in the back seat, he returned the car, returned the child, scolded the mother for leaving her son in the car all alone, threatened to call the police on her, and stole the car again. The thief is no hero, but if caught, he didn’t want kidnapping added to the charge of car theft: stealing a car is a local issue; kidnapping involves the FBI. I must say, I don’t agree with the stealing, but I do agree with the thief that you should not leave your young child alone in the car; I also don’t think one should abandon an unlocked running car in a public place–even for a few minutes. The child was safe, the car was later recovered, and the mom learned a valuable lesson. The mom’s last name is “Leary” which is ironic: she should have been leary about abandoning her son and her car, but she wasn’t. We all make mistakes: some intentional, some unintentional; just like we all sin. God graciously helps us recover from our mistakes, and He graciously forgives our sins. Remember Romans 6:23: “For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.”
