Hello, this is pastor gary from first baptist church of laplata. Today’s “Throwback Thursday” is from Thursday, January 14, 2021. Hot Dog! I just read that Oscar Meyer is hiring college graduates to drive its Wienermobile around for a year; but only after spending 40 hours of training at “Hot Dog High” in Madison, Wisconsin to determine if candidates can cut the mustard after sufficient grilling. If you’ve never seen the Wienermobile, it is orange and yellow and looks like a 27 foot long hot dog on a bun. Frankly, I love hot dogs, I love the Wienermobile, and I am a college graduate; but I already have a job. And since I just started my new job less than a year ago, I don’t think I could take a year off to drive around—but Debbie and I would relish the opportunity to criss-cross our great land spreading hope, cheer, and nitrates. Wienermobile crews consist of 2 people: one to drive and the other to ride shot-bun—both have to have their meat-belts fastened when the vehicle is in motion; however, during parades, the rider is permitted wave to crowds from the bun-roof. The Wienermobile first debuted in 1936 and has been carrying Oscar Myer’s ambassadors, known as “hotdoggers,” ever since. While Christians do not ride in a special vehicle, “we are ambassadors for Christ” according to II Corinthians 5:20 spreading His good news of salvation. Hotdoggers promote the temporary satisfaction that hot dogs provide; Christians are to share the eternal satisfaction that only Jesus Christ can provide by grace through faith in Him.
