Hello, this is pastor gary from first baptist church of laplata. When preparing sermons, I type the word “salvation” a lot. Oftentimes, I invert the first “a” and the “l” spelling “slavation” instead. Slavation is not an actual word, but it sounds like one that means “enslavement.” It is interesting that by the switching of two adjacent letters we go from the most wonderful experience of the Universe, salvation, to one of the most horrendous. Salvation is by grace alone through faith alone in Christ alone. Slavation is everything else. Paul asks in Romans 6:15, “Know ye not that to whom ye yield yourselves servants to obey, his servants ye are to whom ye obey?” In other words, those who habitually commit sin are servants, or slaves, to sin. God’s salvation through Christ Jesus frees us from sin so that we are no longer enslaved by it and to it. The freedom that Jesus gives is absolute. Jesus said in John 8:36, “If the Son therefore shall make you free, ye shall be free indeed.”
