Hello, this is pastor gary from first baptist church of laplata. Chic-fil-A got in trouble last week, but they shouldn’t have. Someone asked via Twitter why CFA’s famous nuggets do not come in a spicy variety. The response from CFA’s official Twitter account was, “Your community will be the first to know if spicy items are added to the permanent menu…” Chic-fil-A often uses the phrase, “your community” in their official correspondence and had used it four different times that same day responding to other inquiries; however, in this case, the individial, who was later determined to be black, was offended by the phrase, “your community,” as though Chic-fil-A was intentionally planning to target the black community with spicy nuggets. The Twitterverse has determined that Chic-fil-A is racist. There are genuine racists in our country, but this is an example of people looking to be offended. Offense was taken for a completely innocent and innocuous comment. Romans 12:18 instructs us, “…as much as lieth in you live peaceably with all men.” We should be trying to get along with each other—not trying to pick fights with each other. Chic-fil-A explained their practice and apologized for their “poor choice of words,” but I don’t think an apology was necessary. Even so, CFA was trying to do their part to engender peace with others.
