Hello, this is pastor gary from first baptist church of laplata. “We the people of the United States in order to form a more perfect union, establish justice, insure domestic tranquility, provide for the common defense, promote the general welfare, and secure the blessings of liberty to ourselves and our posterity…” And so states the preamble to one of the most important man-made documents of world history, The Constitution of the United States of America. Today is Constitution Day: the 234th birthday of our Constitution and a day to celebrate the brilliance, magnificence, and simplicity of our Constitution. The Constitution is without equal in the entirety of the world and world history. I believe the Constitution was inspired by God—but not in the same manner as Scripture—just as I believe God inspires hymn writers and sermons. The Constitution was written, debated, and approved by godly men who daily appealed to the God of heaven for wisdom and guidance in their deliberations. Unlike Scripture, the Constitution is not perfect due to its human origin; however, it is perfect for our nation. John Adams pointed out the big problem with the Constitution, it “was made only for a moral and religious people. It is wholly inadequate for the government of any other.” Actually, the problem is not with the Constitution—the problem is with us.
