Hello, this is pastor gary from first baptist church of laplata. Today’s “Throwback Thursday” is from Wednesday, August 19, 2020. President Trump has finally gone too far—at least that’s what some of his opponents are saying. Yesterday, on the 100th anniversary of the ratification of the 19th Amendment giving American women the right to vote, President Trump pardoned Susan B. Anthony, an important leader of the women’s suffrage movement. You see, Susan B. Anthony was fined $100 for illegally voting in the 1892 election; she protested the fine and never paid the fine which in today’s dollars would be close to $3000.00! Her crime was still on the books, so President Trump wiped it off the books in a symbolic gesture to celebrate the importance of women in our nation and in the electoral process. While women have not always been considered to be of equal importance as men in America, God has always intended and viewed woman as equals to men. In the Old Testament Garden of Eden, Eve was made from Adam’s side in a show of equality with him; both male and female are declared to be created in God’s image. In the New Testament, Jesus spoke to women, healed women, saved women, and allowed women to be the first witnesses to His empty tomb on Easter Sunday. Today’s church is heavily indebted to women through the millennia who have faithfully worshiped, served, and supported the ministry. Thank God for women and their impact on our lives, our church, our nation, and our world!
