Hello, this is pastor gary from first baptist church of laplata. Jeff Jacobs from Calvert County is a happy man who broke a Maryland fishing record last Friday by catching the state’s largest swordfish near Ocean City. Weighing in at 393 pounds, this catch eclipsed Maryland’s previous record-holder by more than 90 pounds. In Jacobs’ own words, the fish “jumped out of the water and looked like a Volkswagen.” It took the fisherman five and a half hours to reel in the beast. Apparently, this swordfish was not interested in breaking any records. Impressive as Jacobs’ catch is, the world record swordfish catch is from Chili and just shy of 1200 pounds! Fishermen are known for embellishing their stories, but there are witnesses, a picture, and a Maryland Department of Natural Resources official to prove this one. As mentioned in yesterday’s sermon, believers are to use truthful words no matter what the subject may be. Proverbs 12:22 states, “Lying lips are abomination to the Lord, but they that deal truly are His delight.” If that verse is too long for you, remember the saying my father had quoted in his senior high school yearbook, “Honesty is the best policy”
