Hello, this is pastor gary from first baptist church of laplata. On this date in 1783, the Treaty of Paris was signed formally ending the American Revolutionary War. Negotiated by John Adams, Benjamin Franklin, and John Jay, the treaty required the British Crown to recognize American Independence and cede most of the land east of the Mississippi River to the new nation—including what was then known as the Northwest Territory which represents present-day Illinois, Indiana, Michigan, Minnesota, and Ohio. Winning the Revolutionary War and securing the Treaty of Paris was miraculous and certainly guided by the same Divine Providence referenced in the Declaration of Independence. The United States went on from the Treaty of Paris to eventually become the most powerful, wealthy, and free nation in human history. What was the secret? Our geography is important—but is not the secret; our Constitution is a masterpiece—but is not the secret; our natural resources are bountiful—but are not the secret. Our Founding Fathers were godly men who established this nation on godly principles that God has chosen to bless; however, we must beware of resting on our Founding Fathers’ godly laurels; as Thomas Jefferson once said, “Indeed, I tremble for my country when I reflect that God is just: that His justice cannot sleep forever…” America, our repentance is long overdue!
